About PD Quilling

Hi, I’m Kate, and alongside my husband Nic, we are the owners of PD Quilling.

We live in a small village in West Yorkshire and have 3 kids (1 has already left home!) and 2 mad cats! We both have ‘other jobs’ but thought why not, when the opportunity to own a quilling supplies shop was presented to us.

On 30th June 2024, Rachel, owner of The Quirky Quillers, put a simple line at the end of an email to me saying –

“So if you’ve ever fancied becoming a quilling supplies shop, do let me know!!”

2 months later on 2nd September 2024 PD Quilling opened its doors.

The plan was to take the summer to set everything up, with a view to going live at the end of October.

However, life never goes to plan and due to personal reasons Rachel did not have the time to continue with the store. So within 3 weeks of the first email, Nic and I had taken on fulfilling the Quirky Quillers orders to ensure that everyone could continue to get their quilling supplies.

It has felt like we haven’t stopped since! In the background Nic designed, built and populated the ecommerce website with over 250 products (with a little help from me!), whilst I worked on designing the logo and getting all the marketing materials ordered.

There was also the small matter of choosing a name! We went with PD Quilling as I already run Purple Days, a shop where I sell my quilled jewellery and pictures – Purple Days Quilling Supplies was a bit of a mouthful so we shortened it to PD Quilling.

We did manage to get a week away with all 3 kids to our favourite place, North Norfolk, and it was lovely to relax and not work for a week.

PD Quilling will be selling all of the quilling paper and supplies that you need, as a quiller myself I know the needs and wants of a quiller but would love to know if you would like something else to be stocked.

PD Quilling and The Quirky Quillers will be working collaboratively to bring you a great experience. With inspiration and community from The Quirky Quillers, and the best in customer service and supplies from PD Quilling, this is the start of a very special relationship, and we are so happy you will be a part of it.

A little about me, I’m Kate, Owner of PD Quilling and Purple Days. I love crafting and have tried lots of different types, crochet, sewing, jewellery making, lino printing, the list could keep going!

I find doing any sort of craft very therapeutic and it really helps my mental health. The act of concentrating on making something helps to calm my mind and then I have something nice at the end.

I started quilling back in 2019 after being inspired by a friend’s birthday card they received that had been quilled. It started as a hobby, making pictures for friends and family, I was still doing other crafts at the time and found time to learn crochet and even made fabric masks during Covid.

After a visit to an arts event in our village my husband encouraged me to start selling my products, which at the time was paper quilling, jewellery and lino print cards.

So back in October 2021 Purple Days was born and I started selling my items on my website and at craft fairs, since then Purple Days has had a rebrand, a few changes in what I sold and today I simply sell paper quilled products, mainly pictures, greeting cards, jewellery and fridge magnets.

Over the years I’ve bought my paper quilling supplies from various places, but my favourite place to buy paper and tools was from Rachel at the Quirky Quillers. She sold Japanese Tant paper in individual colours, not something I could find anywhere else in the UK, this paper is slightly textured and is of great quality. This was where I was introduced to the Quirky Quillers community.
